Little Platte Lake, located in the northwestern region of Michigan's lower peninsula and near Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, is part of the Platte River watershed. This serene lake plays an important role in the ecology, water quality, economy and recreational interests of the area.
The lake occupies approximately 805 acres, and 80% of the lake is less than 3 feet deep. Of the 31,000 feet (nearly six miles) of shoreline, more than 12,000 feet consists of state-owned wetlands that provide excellent habitat for many waterfowl and other bird species, fish and mammals.
Warning: The shallow muck and marl bottom may be hazardous to the mechanical health of your engine. Short shaft 5 to 50 horsepower motors are recommended.
The use of illegal bait or release of non-native plants and animals in all Michigan territories is strictly prohibited.
Please follow clean boat practices.

LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION!
Little Platte Lake is managed in part by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and thus there is a public boat ramp (no camping) located on the north side of the lake, off of Saffron Road about a quarter-mile east of the incomparable M-22 North Scenic Highway ... see map below.
With somewhat less accessibility, there is a smaller county access at the end of Spruce Street off of Deadstream Road, noting this is primarily a residential area.
